The children probably call him Pastor Parker. He is the Reverend Parker Cross who holds a bachelor degree from Texas Christian University and a Master of Divinity degree from Brite Divinity School. He came to us with broad experience. He served in four churches in Texas, including serving as the startup pastor at one, before coming to CHCC in January 2000. While we hired him away from Texas, he is actually an Oklahoma native, born in Tulsa. Besides serving our church, he is also on the Board of the Regional Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma. Parker's wife, Marion, is an early childhood education professional. He has two adult children and a new cat, at least new to the family.
Associate Minister, Kinsie Tate has primary responsiblity for youth and young adult ministries while she gains experience in the full range of church activities. In seminary Kinsie participated in several experiences that influenced her ministry. In 2004, she traveled with a group to Honduras on a mission trip where she worked at a health clinic and child nutrition center. In 2005, she was the PTS representative, along with students from other Disciples seminaries, on a Week of Compassion trip to Bosnia. There she got to see first hand the results of our special offerings. Finally, she just returned from the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey, Switzerland where she attended classes and interacted with students from throughout the world. This ecumenical lab is affiliated with the World Council of Churches and the University of Geneva.
Kinsie is married to Kris Tate, a United Methodist Minister. They have a dog, Trixie—part dachshund and part terrier—with a snaggled-tooth, weepy eye and lots of personality. Kinsie also loves cats and horses. In her spare time she likes to paint in oils and do photography.
Assistant Minister, Marilynn Knott, is a Social Worker by education and experience, receiving her BS degree from Phillips University and her MSW degree from the University of Denver. She is currently pursuing the Licensed Minister program within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) enhancing her other training with religious education. Her primary responsibilities are Missions, Discipleship, and Communications. Seven nieces and nephews and 16 grand-nieces and nephews are a large part of the joy in her life besides her wonder dog, Micah.
Summer Powers, Director of Christian Education, is at home on a mission trip to Mexico (as pictured here), leading in children's worship, coordinating the Oklahoma City CROP Walk fund raiser for Church World Services, skiing down the slopes of a Colorado mountain with a caravan of youth or sitting quietly with a young person dealing with a problem. Summer is currently pursuing the Licensed Ministry program within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She is married to Steve and has two sons.
Deborah Canary-Marshall, Administrative Assistant, came to us with a wealth of experience having served for 10 1/2 years as the Office Administrator for the Oklahoma Conference of Churches. Deborah grew up in Newcastle where she and her husband Robert now live. They attend St. Andrews United Methodist Church.
With four children and seven grandchildren ranging from age 9 months to seven years, they have plenty of folks to keep them busy and provide great joy for their lives.
